Driveway Estimate Comparison Checklist

A printable checklist for comparing driveway and paving estimates side by side, covering material, removal depth, base prep, drainage, permits and cleanup.

Use this printable checklist to compare proposed work on a driveway or commercial paving area without mistaking different scopes for equivalent quotes. It covers material, affected area, removal depth, base preparation, drainage, joints, permits, traffic restrictions and cleanup. A homeowner may use it during the first conversation with a contractor; the final scope still comes from inspection and the applicable local rules.

What the worksheet contains

Start with the property and surface type, then write down the observed failure. Record crack pattern, low points, recurring potholes, uneven transitions, standing water and the proportion of the driveway affected. Take one overview photograph and one closer image, if safe, so the written estimate can be tied to the same physical area.

For each proposal, note whether the crew is filling a stable crack, applying a bonded overlay, lifting an intact slab, replacing a concrete panel, installing an asphalt patch or reconstructing the base and surface. Ask how the new work will meet the undamaged pavement, whether water flow will change, what is included in disposal and whether street-side permits apply.

How to compare estimates fairly

A quote that omits base repair may be cheaper than a full-depth fix, but the two do not promise the same result. A sealcoat may be useful on sound asphalt but is not comparable to structural paving. A full replacement quote may contain demolition, grading, reinforcement, new materials and haul-off that are outside a surface-repair figure. Compare both methods and exclusions before comparing totals.

Print this page to use the checklist while comparing quotes. It helps compare written estimates and does not replace a property assessment.

For explanations of individual methods, see repair vs replacement, concrete repairs, asphalt repairs and the pricing guide.
